Can you edit video from an external hard drive when laptop HD is the place?
Hello, I have a 100GB hard drive in my Sony Vaio laptop (VGN-fe550g) and edited video on DVD with Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 with no problems. However, I am now running out of space, as for my second DVD project, I have a lot of more video footage. Do you think I experienced any problems if I connect an external hard drive and work with my video from there? I'm going to mount it via USB 2.0. Thank you!
Yes you can. There may be a bit slower, depending on the USB connection and how many other devices are using the same USB bus. One thing that can help. Move your 20GB HD to the external hard drive, then the two drives together the video projects. Draw the most important files on the external when using the internal for "cache" or temporary files. When reading and writing from one to another, there is a net gain seen in the performance, such as when playing a DVD stream rendering of edited footage.
