I put my memory card in my new samsung Major and did not see anything. What can I do to see my files?

I had a Nokia 6263 with 1 GB Micro SD card and inserted the card into my new Samsung Heavy and the phone shows no memory card. How can I add my files from my memory card with the Samsung Gravity?

They told me to download the contents of my memory card on my computer, reformat the card, then load the stuff back on the map. I have not tried it yet. I have not had time. I only had one weeks tho. There are a lot of things that I have no sympathy on this phone. However, the need to like everything that they learn everything again! Hope this helps.
